Resilience is an important tool in times of stress. Building resilience allows us to endure stress and hardship, and is especially helpful during this time of uncertainty with the pandemic. Jane Brody’s piece in the New York Times discusses the recently published book, “The Myth of Closure,” by Pauline Boss, professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Boss, a family therapist, educator and researcher, speaks at length about a strategy for developing resilience through a series of exercises:
- Find meaning
- Adjust your sense of mastery
- Rebuild identity
- Normalize ambivalence
- Revise attachment
- Discover new hope
